I was exposed to photography at a young age (see tribute page) but did not really care for it. My parents gave us a Cannon AE-1 for our wedding gift in 1983. We took tons of photos until the kids were older and then just stopped for some reason. Back then it was the camera in auto and just pointing and shooting. We got hooked again on digital the summer of 2006 and it has snowballed into a passion.
The thing I love about photography is creating your unique vision of a scene. I strive to take photos that are different that the normal photos. Not too many people lay in the mud to get a new angle on a flower or take photos in their kitchen sink (see my abstract page).
I love teaching others and sharing ideas. As I was a Naval Nuclear Power instructor, I can tend to get too technical. Ann has been my sounding board on how I should share my info, although I need to stop using her for this. I taught her the basic technique of slow shutter speed, aperture and ND filters to get the silky water effect on waterfalls. Her photos are better than mine.
Our techniques are totally different which is a good thing. She does macro with a 70-300mm lens (equivalent of 600mm film lens) with a macro tube or a 1.4 converter. I do macro with a 50mm prime lens as I like to get up close and personal to the subject.
Hope you like the site and please feel free to share your thoughts and ideas.
